How to Deep Clean Dirty Blinds
Blinds make great substitutes for curtains. They allow you to control the amount of sunlight that comes inside your house. If you close them completely, they block off the view of your home's interior, offering you unparalleled security. The bad side of blinds is that they need constant cleaning because they are continuously exposed to dust, dirt, and grime. After some time, you may have to clean them thoroughly instead of merely dusting or wiping the slats. Here are some tips on how to make them spic and span in no time at all.
First, lower the blinds and fully close the slats. Then refer to the manufacturer's manual on how to remove the blinds from their mounting brackets. After removing them, lay them on the ground. Begin cleaning by wiping the slats with a rag. Do not worry if encrusted dust is not removed because your goal here is to remove surface dust. Next, spray the slats with an all-purpose cleaner. A mild solution will do but it is best to check with the manual to determine what cleaners are safe for your blinds. Let the cleaner soak through the dirt for a few minutes.
Next, scrub the blinds gently with a soft-bristled brush. You should brush in a motion that is parallel to the slats. After you are done with the area, turn the blinds over and repeat the process on the other side. Hang them on a clothesline and rinse the slats with clean water from a garden hose. After the residue is washed away, shake the slats to get rid of moisture. Allow the blinds to air-dry outside. Once they are dry, reinstall them back into their mounting brackets.
